Anna Kurkova is an artist of Belarusian heritage living in the UAE. Kurkova’s work bridges the gap between symbolism and reality and explores imagined landscapes against sensory materiality. She is interested in the ways womanhood, personhood and identity shape and develop, spanning rich tapestry of community and collective memory. Her work touches on primordial mythical harmony of man and nature through the lens of gender and in the context of the Anthropocene. Kurkova’s studio practice includes sculptural installations that combine unexpected materials and techniques, along with traditional methods such as darkroom photography, etching, printmaking, and painting. Kurkova is the winner of Jackson Painting Prize 2023 as well as the Christo and Jeanne Claude Art Prize 2017 and has exhibited her work at multiple galleries in the UAE and beyond. She hods an MA in Art History (Sorbonne University), and a BA in Visual Arts (New York University). Anna currently works as a Mixed Media Arts Instructor at the New York University Abu Dhabi.
